Among the financial aids available to our students, are the following:
- Stafford Loan: the student that meets the requirements established by the United States Department of Education may receive up to $18,500 maximum per academic year, from subsidized and unsubsidized loans.
- Educational Opportunity Act: Through Law 138 of July 1, 1999, it was approved the Supplementary Educational Aid Program, produced by the Post Secondary Development Office of the Council on Higher Education of Puerto Rico (CHEPR). This program has the purpose to grant supplemental financial aid to students with situations of economic disadvantage, who are registered in qualified medical schools.
- Legislative Scholarships: the Universty of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus manages this program. The Financial Aid Office yearly distributes the forms that interested students must complete. The aforementioned medical school determines the evaluation and appropriation of financial aid. The amount of money granted varies depending on the student financial needs.
- Municipal Grants: Some municipalities have financial aid programs to help outstanding students that demonstrate need for financial aid. To apply for this grants the students should visit the corresponding Municipal City Hall.
- Veterans: The Registrar's Office prepares the certification required by the Veterans Administration for the appropriation of financial aid to qualified students.
- Vocational Rehabilitation Program: This program intends to help students with physical or mentally disabilities, so that by a series of phases or stages they are able to develop their capabilities.
- Study and Work Plan: The School offers the opportunity to some students to work a weekly amount of hours at the Basic Sciences Campus and be paid for their services. Some of these opportunities are: tutorships, work at the library, and work at research laboratories.
- Payment Plans: The School offers an alternative payment plan to second year students and onwards, who for some reason do not qualify to receive a Stafford Loan, and cannot pay the total tuition amount at registration time.
